Broken Bones
I attend acupuncture sessions with Awais Mian at the Seven Heavens Clinic in Finsbury Park
In January 2006 I fell down a flight of stairs and badly dislocated my shoulder, broke my wrist and upper arm and completely shattered my elbow. I had two operations on my elbow and left hospital with several screws and a plate holding the fragile elbow in place. I struggled by without much movement in my arm and without being able to lower it any further than chest level for the rest of the year. I had tried extensive physiotherapy, which unfortunately did not help much. For Christmas 2006 my daughter purchased me the best present I have ever received, it was a course of acupuncture treatments with Awais Mian.
I was very apprehensive and took more than a little persuasion, being a very much needle-phobic person, but I eventually plucked up courage and went along to see Awais. I was very nervous and didn’t really know what to expect. Upon arrival I was led into a lovely treatment room which has a wonderful ambience of calm and harmony, as well a wonderful fragrance of soothing oils. Awais and his brother Faisal immediately put me at ease and Awais listened quietly and patiently, making notes whilst I relayed my circumstances.
Awais has a truly wonderful manner, he is such a gentle, kind person and managed to make me feel quite relaxed whilst he explained the basics of what acupuncture is all about and how he believed he could help me. He decided that “cupping” to my back and neck and various needles around my shoulder and arm was to be the first treatment. I was truly surprised that I felt no pain and actually found the cupping not unpleasant, at the end of the session I was absolutely amazed by the immediate benefit which I felt. I could move my head from side to side to a much greater degree and best of all, I could actually move my arm and shoulder with such a greater amount of movement, and I really was at a loss for words.
I had treatment on a weekly basis for the next six months or so and my arm continued to improve with each visit. Awais inserted needles and also used moxibustion to heat them to improve the therapeutic effect I can only describe this process as feeling like warm, soothing honey is being poured directly into the affected area. As my arm improved, my visits have become fortnightly now instead of weekly.
When I went to see the Consultant who performed my elbow operations, for the six monthly follow up visit in December 2007, he was absolutely amazed at the improvement in movement and the fact that I can now let my arm hang at my side with only a few inches less reach than with my good arm. On my previous visit I had only about 45% usage of my right arm and was told that this was probably the best I would ever achieve. He asked what I had been doing and when I told him about the acupuncture he agreed that in many cases, it really can be very beneficial.
I would just like to thank Awais from the bottom of my heart for his kindness, encouragement; gentleness and expertise in helping me achieve about 90% full usage of my arm. I can fully endorse the fact that the clinic and the treatment provided therein by Awais have changed my life and whilst I will never loose my fear of needles I now realise that the outstanding results achieved from their skilled use can be truly beneficial. I would most strongly recommend the use acupuncture to all my friends, family and colleagues as I have experienced the benefits for myself.
